Your eye screening, explained
- Why it matters.
- Diabetes and glaucoma can damage your sight without warning signs. Finding them early gives you the best chance of keeping your vision.
- What happens.
- A technician or nurse takes a picture of the back of each eye. It takes a few minutes and does not hurt. Most people do not need eye drops.
- What MONA does.
- MONA is a computer programme that looks at your pictures and flags eyes that should be seen by a specialist. Your doctor reviews the result and decides what happens next.
- What the result means.
- "Referral advised" does not mean you have a disease. It means a specialist should take a closer look. "No referral" does not replace your regular check-ups, so keep your usual appointments.
- Questions?
- Ask your doctor or nurse.
