Evaluated extensively

MONA has been tested in many settings, from a national screening programme to hospital eye clinics and primary care. Numerous peer-reviewed papers have been published about MONA, including 2 in Lancet journals. We stand strong on these clinical results.

Highlights from the Lancet papers

Diabetic retinopathy

The Lancet Digital Health, 2025

National screening programme: 202,886 screening encounters, 126,365 people, 8 AI systems compared.

  • MONA had the highest specificity of the 8 systems: 95.7% in people with no retinopathy or maculopathy.
  • Sensitivity greater than 96% for moderate to proliferative retinopathy.
  • About 77% fewer encounters needed human grading.

Glaucoma

The Lancet Primary Care, 2026

Primary-care study: 671 adults screened, added to an existing diabetic eye screening visit.

  • Sensitivity: MONA 78% vs experts 75%, as many cases found as experts.
  • Specificity: MONA 10% vs experts 18%, about half as many referrals and hospital visits.
